TAB BENOIT
BEST OF THE BAYOU BLUES
Like many roots artists from Louisiana, guitarist-singer-songwriter Tab Benoit's music is a spicy gumbo of blues, rock, country, funk, and Cajun influences. Benoit has been turning out distinctive, high-quality albums since the early 1990s, and Vanguard's 16-track compilation, BEST OF THE BAYOU BLUES, pulls the finest moments from that stack. The set features plenty of Benoit's fine originals, but also shows him to be a lively interpreter of classic blues (Willie Dixon's "The Seventh Son"), country (Hank Williams's "Jambalaya"), and other styles. Yet it is Benoit's warm, soulful voice and dazzling guitar leads that steal the show.
