DVD - Walter Trout - In Concert
Blues-rock guitarist Walter Trout spent the majority of the '80s as a sideman to such renowned blues artists as John Lee Hooker, Big Mama Thornton, Joe Tex, Canned Heat, and John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, but it wasn't until the '90s that Trout assembled his own band and struck out on his own. The 2001 video/DVD In Concert captures the guitarist live on the German Ohne Filter music program, recorded on June 29, 1993. Leading a quartet (with bass, drums, and keyboards), Trout lets the blues riffs rip throughout this hourlong performance, bringing to mind such blues-rock icons as Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Standouts including the tracks "I Can Tell," "Life in the Jungle," and "Victor the Cajun." At the end of the video, Trout tells the crowd that he played on the show once before with Mayall's band, and had hoped to one day come back to lead his own band on the program. As evidenced throughout In Concert, the invitation served as a quite an inspiration to Trout's playing that night.
